Hello! My name is Carlos Edwin
Estremera. I am currently
pursuing my Bachelor's in
Graphic Communications and
Production Management at
New
York City College of Technology
in Brooklyn, NY. Though I am
learning in school, I have
obtained some work experience in
graphic design as well as web
design. Here is a bit of
information about who I am.
|
Digital imaging and document creation is my
greatest desire, whether for print or for
web. I was introduced to digital imaging and
the Web during my junior year at
High School
for Arts and Business in Corona, Queens NY.
In high school I learned about
Visual J++
Programming,
3D animation,
Adobe Photoshop,
and the
World Wide Web. This experience
stirred up in me the passion to create
personal web pages.
As I advanced in web searching, I came
across different websites that offered
information or services to allow creation of
personal web pages for free. Thus, I began
my journey through the web design world.
Throughout my years in web design research
and experience, I have done a variety of
websites either through
html coding,
WYSIWYG
editors, and, one of today's most popular
methods, using
PHP/MySQL
content management
systems off of
web host servers.
I have also worked around using
Adobe
Flash by using
SwishMAX instead for my flash
animations. It is sort of a WYSIWYG for
Flash; it breaks the steps down and writes
most of the
ActionScript for you. I AM,
however, learning Flash on my own little by
little.
My main method for website creation is using
a PHP/MySQL generated CMS. The CMS's are
usually customizable through CSS and html
templates, and provides a quick head start
into implementing content in a flash.
Nevertheless, I am eager to learn PHP and
other programming languages to eventually
design my own content management system.
After noticing my talent in digital imaging
for web, several acquaintances of mine
challenged my skills by offering me jobs in
producing print media for their personal use
or small businesses. These challenges
allowed me to apply my knowledge of desktop
publishing to practical use.
Last summer, I had the privilege of being
one of the first graphic communications interns at
my job,
The Foundation Center. This
opportunity helped in giving me a taste of
the production world.
Aside from being a graphic designer, I am
also a musician as well as had experience in
performing arts, and I am part of the
department of communications for a
non-profit religious
organization.
One of my expectations is to apply this
variety of skills of mine into engaging an
all-around non-profit international
religious organization for youth; having my
own organization with a design firm, web
site, newsletter, community services, and
more.
